Suggested Block Sizes

Block size suggestions are provided for two main reasons:

  • Give you a rough representation of the size of a particular sentiment.
  • Help guide your crafting so you can grab the correct block size for the sentiment you'd like to use.

Block Sizes

Our system uses the height and width of a sentiment to match it to the best suggested block size.

  • Keep in mind all block sizes listed are only suggestions.
  • We do not account for mounting stamps diagonally or, with photopolymer, bending them during mounting (you're always welcome to do that, of course, but you might need to experiment a bit to find the best block size).
  • We attempt to account for using each block both in portrait (taller) or landscape (wider) orientations, so if you're having trouble getting a stamp to fit on a block, make sure you try both ways.
  • While many stamps are either square or rectangular in shape, there are ones that appear as circles or unusual shapes. To determine block size, our system creates an imaginary square or rectangle around all elements of the stamp and uses the dimensions of that shape. This may mean that we are accounting for a significantly amount of empty space, but, in general, this will still determine the best block to use when inking and stamping the entire sentiment.
  • Our general goal here is to make sure we give you a suggested block size that will fit the sentiment in question without being too small while also not being substantially too large. There may be cases when the suggested block is bigger than is ideal. You're always welcome to try a smaller size.
  • Block size suggestions account for the entire stamp. If you're only using a part of a stamp, you may be able to use a smaller block.
  • There may be cases where slight variations in various factors may mean our suggestion is inaccurate.
  • Our system isn't perfect. If you find a suggested block size that's off, we do have the ability to manually override them, so feel free to let us know.
